What I like about this Forum
Re: What I like about this Forum
Mike, We all started out as Newbies. Some of the most prized pieces, in my collection, I paid the least for, papers, old letters, and boxes come to mind. My first Ruger was a yard sale purchase, an RSSE for $110, in original case. Those bargains are still out there. Maybe not as many. Good luck and Welcome to ROCS.

Re: What I like about this Forum
Fox Mike,
As we go into next Falls Digest, and thereafter, we need to consider the points you make. The Officer and Director group is a bunch of "old guys", most who started into Rugers a long time ago. I bought my 1st two in 1959 and 1961; a LWSC and a 10" 44. I still have them, and their boxes; the boxes being pretty ratty from much abuse. They were retail at $63.25 and $106.00.
Now, how do we get the new guys to write about what they are interested in; whether hunting close to home, New Models, Double Actions or whatever. Or, if they don't feel like they are "writers", tell us what they would like to see in the Digest; we can find someone who can do it. Ruger collecting reminds me of another hobby I once dabbled in- coin collecting. I wanted to fill up a nickel book. I found all of them in change that I needed, except 4 or 5. I went out and bought them; they cost me more than face! Same way with Ruger collecting' there are many bargains out there in many areas and it is a "hunt". Sometimes the rare ones, you have to buy from someone who already found it.
Again, speaking for our Editor, WE NEED TO HEAR FROM THE MEMBERS WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN THE DIGEST.
PLEASE, all you new, and younger Members, tell us what you would like to see in upcoming Digests. I am going to start a new thread on this topic, so please respond there.

Re: What I like about this Forum
As a long time member of the Ruger Forum, I do try & answer the questions from "newbies" as much as I can. But as Lee has said, a simple question is not so simple. (I have XYZ Ruger, what's it worth?) Too many details to give an honest answer. I usually say: "We need more details to give an honest appraisal. Pictures are a big help. The devil is in the details"
Is it tiring to get the same type of questions? Yes. But, as it's been pointed out, we do not need to dissuade newbies. Heck, I've been chasing Ruger stuff for a few decades, and still feel like a newbie a lot. I try to not forget my past & help those who will be our future.
But, we can all share our passion in a POLITE way. That's why I chose to join this group. In general, this bunch of folks are polite & willing to help. I have experienced too much elitism in other collecting arenas to where I'd hate to see it happen here.
I follow a few rules;
(1) We were all newbies once.
(2) We all learned stuff from an experienced person.
(3) We should all try & share what we know.
That's why I like this ROCS & this Forum!
