Re: HAIL FROM ILLINOIS: BROKE & FIGHTING TO TAKE MY GUNS
Carbondale is now really rich in new taxes now too, from 8.75 to 12.75% putting even Chicago to shameLIBERTY FOREVER wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2017 11:18 am Watertender
Little Egypt is indeed a portion of the true Souther Illinois, Interstate 64 and south. Its the area I reside in and was raised and went to school.
SIU-C Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Its rich in history from politics, settlers, etc. The Shawnee forest is truly one of its greatest resources. You must have some ties to or have resided in Illinois at one time?

I bet there was a whole lot of screaming at that meeting!

Re: HAIL FROM ILLINOIS: More Knee Jerk Legislation
Well in another display of knee-jerk reaction our great state of IL and it's legislators have been busy. I'm sure many of your states politicians have been busy coming up with legislative immediate action drills to correct the ills of the horrid indecent act of the mad man in Nevada. As I stated in my introduction to everyone when I came on-board to ROCs, in the Great State of Illinois it only takes a prevailing wind off of Lake Michigan and a national incident to drum up legislation in Springfield to impede citizens 2nd amendment rights. Do they address the real issues: daily murder & assault rates in Cook County? Do they condemn the city of Chicago and its policies to control murder & assault rates? Just more blow hard regulation on items that will not reduce the murder or assault rate in this state. If we aren't proactive and reactive with NRA, NRA-IL and pressuring our Legislators we will soon add ourselves to the list of states in our Union (NY) (CA) etc with magazine, round count limitations and non trigger modification.

Re: HAIL FROM ILLINOIS:
RocDoc the thought has crossed my mind on many occasions.
The three states you mention are beautiful and I have vacationed and done some duty in each of them. I would be proud to call any of them home. However we enjoy Illinois for the full four seasons and all four of my children have settled here and three young grandchildren. I'm on a nice little place that keeps us all in touch with nature and one another. Besides I like hanging around for a good fight.
I don't want to give the impression that I'm a rambling bickering old fool against all good order and establishment. Very much the opposite, I spent a lifetime in state and federal government military service. I'm simply fed up with dysfunctional corrupt state government that has driven us to near bankruptcy on issues that end up costing the citizens more in tax dollars while depriving them of more rights, 2nd amendment being the concern on this forum. Watching politicians hold up funding approvals for other measures, projects, pensions, school funding etc by threatening further gun legislation has become common place.
Knee Jerk, some of it? Calculated and manipulative, more appropriately!

Re: HAIL FROM ILLINOIS: GO ARMY BEAT NAVY !!!!!
The number one reason for staying in IL "my children have settled here". I'm at a loss after that especially if you like in the 5 counties of real-estate tax h...ll. Crook being the cheapest of all in those regards but the dozens of additional taxes for living there certainly make it up.
It might be an unfortunately named website but if you've even wondered what's happening in Chicago this site maintains all the statistics. They just added the self defense section the public with concealed carry has surpassed the police. Looks like we have almost made it to 13 hours between murders in Chicago...

Speaker Madigan keeps IL broke, Mayor Emanuel keeps ChiGhanistan in disarray...

The man behind the fiscal fiasco in Illinois

Hundreds of politicians share blame for drowning the state’s government in billions of dollars of debt and unfunded pension liabilities. But House Speaker Michael Madigan – a dominant political force for three decades – has been the constant in key decisions that created the mess.

You know.....Arkansas is quite beautiful in places, not too far from IL. and our freedoms and pretty much wide open to the law-abiding.

Agreed, many may not know the story of the court battle so I posted a link from the Chicago Tribune.
I believe the only other city/district to attempt this maneuver was the District of Washington D.C.
I've remained silent on the continuous barrage of ridiculous Illinois State House Bills that arrive monthly on the Governors desk in IL. I realize there isn't a political/2nd amendment forum on ROCS (nor do I believe there should be one) many other sates are now experiencing the same issues. Our Governor has been able to veto the bills thus far but its only a matter of time before an override occurs. I do want to comment on a new entertaining practice I'm noticing in the southern portion of the state, County Boards as well as City Councils are enacting "Sanctuary Gun County's/Cities". A simple method of politically voicing your 1st amendment right to the State govt of your disagreement with any new restrictions beyond those of current existing Federal or State law. All with the preemptive writing of "IN SUPPORT OF THE LEGAL GUN OWNERS OF THIS xxxxx.
My list of adjectives to describe the times were living in as responsible law abiding gun owners is endless, I'll spare you.
David, I wanted to borrow a few pieces of your email signature line just this once as I enjoy them immensely.
