Re: Chief AJ collectable 10/22's and items.
Thank you all. Yesterday was a rough day. Today is a new day! I am going to focus on the biography and misc around the house. I need to do some serious organizing and editing. So much information has come in within the last two weeks that I'm a bit overwhelmed. Am starting to compile more pictures thanks to those the Chief has put me in touch with, and interesting details keep creeping in. This is something that's going to take some time to do properly.

I was wondering about your grandmother. I knew she'd been ailing. You have my deepest sympathies, and prayers for the entire family.

Here is something a little different. These came from Ron Ackerman (who passed away a few weeks ago btw) through his son Andrew.
Chief AJ came to Memphis sometime in the 1980's to visit Ron and do an appearance at the gun shop that Ron owned back then. Chief did the appearance in a set of clothing like these. I should have the Chiefs set soon to put with Rons. Anyway, Ron liked them so much that he had a second set made. Ron was built a lot like me. The second set, I'm assuming is larger as the Chief was still a big boy then.
Black Levis dress pants with Ruger bird on each leg. Wrangler Denim Shirt with red Eagles. Not Factory Items.

Re: Chief AJ collectable 10/22's and items.
Three people who lived in the desert in CA loaned Chief Ruger 10/22's for the world record shoot in 1987. In return, the Chief shot bullet art for them. Only four of these were ever done by John. The three gifts for the "desert rats" (Chiefs words) were birds. They were a duck, goose, and a swan. The fourth was a dog and that one John did for himself. Below are two of those pieces of bullet art. I have the dog and the grandson of one of those desert rats has the goose. The other two are unaccounted for at this time.

Couple of Autographed Chief AJ Slingbows (I don't shoot these) with leather quiver and iron on slingbow patch.
Slingbow on the left is the Magnetic Elite with 35# band
Slingbow on the right with the whisker biscuit is the North American Big Game with 50# band

I called the Chief yesterday and wished him a Happy 80th birthday. He was glad I called him and we remembered good times together. I think I will try and work in a visit next summer with him on our way to visit my daughter in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Re: Chief AJ collectable 10/22's and items.
Just a heads up on the Chief AJ Book. We have been on the phone, texting, or emailing every day for months now.
We have a title, a table of contents, and the majority of the chapters of the book are lined out with photographs. I'm taking a break from editing as I write this. My eyes don't handle the computer screen for long intervals the way they used to.
This project has become a major undertaking and much more than I had ever imagined.
The first run of the book is paid for and will be limited to around 100 copies. We have a publisher, an editor, and all the pieces are beginning to fall in place. At this time, there is still much to do though.
The Chief has sent me his life in fragments, bits, and pieces which I've had to painstakingly stitch together. Every time that I ask him a question about something it sparks more writing and details not previously known. I'm glad that we have chosen to do this when we did. I fear that had we waited much longer, that it would not come to fruition and I know John would agree wholeheartedly. John is pushing the project forward in the way I expected him to and I have had to put the brakes on him slightly just to ensure that the story is as complete and thorough as possible. He keeps mentioning his age and that worries me to no end. I fear that many details and facts are already lost to history. At any rate, this will be the most comprehensive volume about Chief AJ possible.
Tentatively, I would like to have the book in the publishers' hands by the end of February 2018 and hope to get copies out to those of you who desire one this year!
Kind Regards

Are you taking pre-orders? Will these be numbered? Please get the Chief to sign them.

At this point, I'm hesitant to take any pre-orders but I have started a list of those who would like a copy. If anyone here wishes to obtain one, please email me at glvaughan4@gmail.com or PM me here with your contact info. I'll keep you in the loop as we progress forward. The books may be numbered but how exactly we will do that is a question that I will need to ask our publisher. It may be that they are numbered by us once we receive them. The Chief said that he will gladly sign for those who wish to obtain a copy!
