Just checking to see if anyone has custom plates for their car or truck. I am getting a newer vehicle and am thinking about a new plate to go with my 10/22 collection.

Personally, I think stickers, decals, custom plates, anything that distinguishes your vehicle from another is a bad idea. At stop lights, I can see peoples kids names, the school they go to, the college the parents went to, and the various family depictions that show mom/dad/x number of kids, pets. I want to blend into the background, do not want any strangers knowing my business. There are 3 trucks in the lot I park in at work, all identical. Only way I can quickly tell mine is to click the unlock on the key fob, for some reason one guy with the same truck always parks next to mine.

I think custom plates is a cool idea, BUT.
In our Washington Arms Collectors monthly publication was a story written by a member who was stopped at the Canadian border & quizzed about having any firearms . He honestly thought he did not, but when his truck was searched by the Canadian border patrol they found a hand gun in a briefcase he thought he had left home.
When he asked why he was pulled out of line for a search the CBP agent told him it was because he had an NRA sticker on his truck!!
It has cost him thousands to stay out of jail......
Even in this more positive political climate (administration for now) for gun owners I think I choose to fly low.

I have custom plates saying Watertender but people have a hard time figuring them out. I agree on the NRA & firearms related plates or stickers being a red flag. I know people that have gotten extra attention at the Canadian border for NRA stickers. Why draw attention to yourself or your enjoyment of firearms? I hope my Hello Kitty floor mats throw them off...

I have Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom plates on my vehicles which prevents me from having anything custom in the back. We are not required to have a plate on the front here in AR. That's where many choose to put their personalized ones but it wouldn't come from the DMV unless I chose to forgo the veterans plates. They are only $10/veterans plate/5 yrs so it was a no-brainer. I'm like some here and don't put much on my vehicles to make them stand out but everything I drive has a small tasteful Ruger sticker somewhere on the back glass. Sort of a small warning is the way I see it.
This plate belonged to Roger Dorsett though. I've had it for about 5 years.

Big Old Boy is right. 1022-SR will only mean something to people that know Rugers. Good for you Charlie. My plate says H2O-TNDR which baffles a lot of people.

I have to agree with watertender, when you live close to the border and you have to go into Mexico you (I) don't want to draw any unwanted attention to you or your vehicle. I was pulled over once by the border patrol and they actually rip the center console out of my truck! And they did not repair it!

I can get into enough trouble without advertising my love for guns.
