Petition to Ruger

Post by Rugerologist »

All,

I am interested in starting a petition to Ruger for factory letters like those I've seen come from them in the past. It would be really nice if we could get the membership of ROCS on board with this campaign as well as other Ruger groups and pages out there. Frankly, the letter that I received last week wasn't worth the paper it was printed on and I know that there are others who feel this way. Many of us would pay $100 or more for an informative factory letter. I think that it would be best if Ruger received many similar requests within a certain time frame. For instance, if they received a few hundred letters in April from us, it would surely be noticed. If they only receive a request or two, I doubt that the campaign would be effective. We need to inundate and overwhelm them with these requests and let them know that we are upset with the process but still love our Rugers and are looking for a solution. Please share your thoughts on this matter with me here. If necessary, I can type up a basic request and email it around to the membership. Each member could add their own personal statements and we can either snail mail them to Ruger or use the Contact the CEO tab on the website. I'm envisioning two tiers of letters that could be requested. $10 for their standard toilet paper letter, or more for some deeper insight into our requests.

Kind Regards

Hello Chuck
I concur with you that a consolidated effort is key to success. I would offer the following thoughts to kick around.

1) A standard letter for those whose don't wish to write one that they can sign and forward to a single point of receipt. (leave word petition out)
2) A group letter to sign, Board to consider if its a endorsed ROCS memorandum on letterhead.
3) Coordination with Rugerforum.com would be a consideration, they have a large membership.
4) Recommendations as to what information we would like to see on the letter, an example letter as an attachment.
5) No recommendation on price, If any mention on cost at all only that we understand it will require more resources and time and that we are willing to absorb cost. Let them make that determination they know it will cost more and we will pay for it.
6) Lastly as you stated it will only be successful if the request for increased services comes in heavy and professionally resulting in an mail, email or phone meeting. Or alternatively ROCS leadership is granted a meeting with Ruger Corp OIC of issuance of the letters on behalf of Ruger collectors everywhere.

Respectfully,

I'm in..

Dear Ruger Corporation,

As a collector and owner of many of your fine firearms I would like to request a more detailed letter containing information not contained in your standard reply.... Facts such as approximate date of manufacture, model name, Ruger model number etc. would be most appreciated. Also barrel length, finish and grip material would be extremely helpful.
I would be willing to pay to have such a letter to authenticate my firearm.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.....

Owner xxx number Ruger firearms.... (just the number not a detailed list)

Something like this with variations by snail mail sent by a couple of hundred people should get some attention.

Sound good?

If this goes forward, I will be happy to participate. I do know some of the officers in our society did approach Ruger executives several years ago with a request to improve their letters of authenticity, but it did not result in any changes.

Let's try again! I tend to only post here but those of you who do post on Rugerforum please see if we can generate some interest. It's going to take volume to get anything done.

The last time we tried to get Ruger to give us more detailed information it was shot down by their legal department.

That was a couple of years back. With the new management maybe things have changed, but I don't think so. :( :(

I'll pass along the link to this page and see what, if anything, happens.
I tend to agree the letters are near worthless. Now I know the 'born' date for the Bearcats was 1958. I received a letter on one of mine stating it was shipped in 1953. I realized it was a typo but someone that didn't know the difference would believe what "the factory" said.

I wish you well in your endeavors and would be happy to do my part with a letter.

But the plain fact that Ruger does not have a Historian and as far as I can determine has no plans to fill that slot, we will not see much happen. What would S&W Collector's letters look like without Mr. Jinks in his position? JMHO

Its been my experience that if what OM Crazy said about legal saying no than no company will risk changing that policy. That said let me know where to sign or send a letter...
