Yeah, I got some XGI stuff, press release and the like. I wish I had the real thing! That is one gun I think Ruger could have made a lot of money on if they could have gotten it right.

I have a magazine for an XGI. A gun shop that held Ruger armour's school in Nashville got one of those rifles to evaluate. When they had to send it back to Ruger they kept the magazine. May have an instruction manual too. I bought a bunch of Ruger stuff when the owner died and the shop was closed.

Too bad that Ruger did not go forward with this rifle. What was the reason they didn't?

I always heard there were accuracy issues but not sure if that was the case.

Yes, that is what I read in Ruger and His Guns by RL Wilson. As bad as some of the older Mini 14s shot I can't imagine how bad the XGI would have to shoot that they wouldn't go ahead and release it after all that time, effort, and advertising of it! :D

Yes, I had one on pre-order, would have been my black bear gun for the dark woods of the Adirondacks... Alas, it was beyond their engineering of the time. Sad.
I had heard from good sources the oprod could not be made stiff enough without pulling the barrel off target. I bought a Winchester big bore in 307W and took its first bear with one shot. Never looked back.
Until the 7.62x39 mini 30 that is...

Just to add to the XGI information. Here is the New From RUGER announcement and an instruction manual PO1-5-86.

And here's the letter to dealers and distributors from Ruger explaining their reasons for not manufacturing the rifle.
