American Picker - My Wife?

Post by JussBad »

Was thinking about writing this up for a ROCS Digest story. Last year I happened to catch a re-run episode of American Pickers. In this episode in the background was an early Ruger Ashtray. I recall pausing the TV to get a still photo of the scene. Showed it to my wife and this is where it all began. Little did I know that she did some investigating and detective work without me knowing it and lo & behold under the Christmas tree in 2019, I opened a box and this was inside. (hint: she had no contact with the American Picker Show). There is a lot more to the story but you can imagine my excitement (since the Pickers episode was several years old). I never thought I would ever have the chance to own one of these (least of all the one from the TV show) rare items that Bill Ruger ordered/handed out in 1955 to friends, co-workers and possibly gun dealers... According to Dougan's book only 200 were ordered. How many are still out there? My wife is a real "American Picker" - GW

Gary, that is a great story!! Your wife really fixed you up. They are rare ashtrays indeed. Do write it up for the Digest, will be a great article.

Great item and wonderful story, you're lucky to have somebody in your life that would do that for you.

Good score! I sold one of these about 30 years ago for $1,000.00.
