Been looking at 77/44s for some time and finally pulled the trigger on this one. It has a narrow profile fore end similar to the ultralight stocks, which is not usual per my observations. Most of them have the regular beavertail profile stock. The stock I bought from Midway, now on my 77/357, also has the ultralight profile as do both my 77/RSH. I have also also seen a 77/22wmrRS with a narrow fore end.
Is it possible that this is an unknown variation in the 77/22 platform? Has anyone else noticed this?

It's also a first year, 4-digit SN gun.
I started noticing stock profiles more after acquiring a 77/RLSDZ recently.
Apparently all 77/22RSH have that style stock (but who knows?) and other models may be mixed.

Hmmm... good eye!
Ruger did that on the Number 1 forend a few years back... guess I'll start checking for that on the 77/22 and 77/44 series.

I have a 1993 M77/22 Mag. with the same stock.

The bottom of my walnut stock 77/22 looks just like your picture.
#700-58162, 1987 I believe.

Looking at all these stocks will make your eyes go funny. But, yeah, some also seem extra bulky. And some seem like they are in between, maybe. And check this out. So much for all the RSH having the slimmed fore end:

I finally got this carbine home and it's in great shape with nearly flawless wood. Now I've noticed that there are two different checkering styles at the grip on 77/44s. One is a squared-off bottom rear corner, like this one, and may be on earlier guns. The other is a reverse curve at that corner, like the one in the attached photo, and may be on later rifles.
