Am am acquiring an Old Model Single Six from a relative. They sent me some pictures and I have been doing some digging. Based on the SN it was manufactured in 1957. My relatives tell me that the grips currently on the gun have been on the gun since at least the 1960's and I believe they shipped with the gun. I would like to have the grips authenticated and Ruger pointed me to this group. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

They are stag. If they were factory grips they would have the Ruger emblem.

They look to be J. Scott grips. They look nice on your gun.

And no single sixes are known to have been shipped with stag grips.

Thank you for your inquiry, looks like a good ole honest Single-Six. Your grips are stag rather than ivory and are after market. Ruger offered Sambar stag and ivory as an accessory in the 1950s-60s. Available factory records indicate that approx. 6700 pairs of stag and just over 600 pairs of ivory were shipped. Both stag & ivory featured a Ruger medallion inset in the tradition location near the top.

The grips were typically purchased from the local gun shop, but could be ordered directly from the factory, the purchaser would install them on their revolver.

There were several grip-makers that provided grips to Ruger.

Greetings and to agree with the above post they appear to be Jay Scott grips with the black backing on them ,,,,,,, they should be marked on the back side as such...nice flatgate by the way
