My Creedmoor Saga

started back in 2019 when found (or perhaps rescued) the first of 2 Lyman grade 2 guns. Bothe guns had been well used in black powder shoots and not properly taken care of after. The first gun was the worst, pitted receiver sides and eroded chamber throat. The 2nd gun not as bad, mostly surface rust on the barrel and lever. Sent both guns out to Tyler gun works where they sat untouched for years. Finally grew tired of Bobby's song and dance, had them returned in early 2023 in the exact condition as they were sent. I then found a reputable smith in Dennis Olson of Olson's Gunsmithing. He took on these projects as well as 2 others that Tyler didn't do and as promised returned them all to me in 12 months.

So the first gun there was no saving the lyman side etchings, so they were removed and the barrel was rechambered to 45-90 to eliminate the erosion issue. The 2nd gun only needed surface polishing. On top of the said work, both guns received case coloring from C Sharps in Montana and new rust blued barrels. The reason for the rust bluing is that I had all the barrel holes filled also removed the tang safeties and added custom soule long range peep sights from Lee Shaver. The barrel sling bands were removed and the rear stud replaced by small brass inserts that were laser engraved with my initials. I refinished the the furniture and added bison horn butt plates.

So any way, here are a couple of pics of my 5 year saga.

Very nice. My unmarked overrun of the Lyman Grade 2 works pretty well with these sights (rare Parker Hale rear aperture and BSA globe front). I've since switched to a NECG aperture sight on a rear Ruger 1V base and a Lyman 77 globe front sight on the original front scope block, which work just as well.

Those are sweet! I had Turnbull case color a receiver on a 1A and admired it for a while till its moved on to someone that wanted it more than me. Wish I had kept that one…. But I can lust after yours now…
