NR5F No. 98

One reason I went after the No. 98 Lightweight is that I had already acquired NR5F, SN 268-00598 (numbering started at 501), making it the 98th gun produced. It is high gloss, without New Model in the marking, has big numbers and interesting wood grips.
It came in an unlabeled grey plastic box stippled on both ends with no flat spot for a label. Seller claimed it was original but I don't think so. Pix:

Nice snag !!

IMHO your box is correct.
I have one of very rare uncatalogued NR4 FS, 4 5/8" Hi-Polish revolvers. My box is exactly as you describe yours and has a white cardboard shipper with the end label on it. Not long after these guns were made Ruger switched to the grey plastic case with one end smooth for the end label. This eliminated the need for a shipping sleeve. Ruger at this time also added "feet" to the bottom of the plastic case to facilitate ease of stacking.
Good Hunting.

Hey, thanks a lot for that info, Terry. I wonder how rare those boxes are?
I'm very envious of your NR4F - any of those, except the 50th Anniversary model, are very rare in the market place today. I let one slip by four years ago and haven't even seen one since. And I look a lot. I do have a couple of very nice, older RSS4 Sixes and they need company.
