Tom, I experienced a similar mishap with an Old Model .45 Colt shooting someone else' reloads! The cylinder split and became stuck in the cylinder frame while my neighbor watched! I was glad that i was wearing ear plugs, ear muffs and shooting glasses.
The BKH-44 dual cylinder was saved, but the cylinder was trash. I still shoot the gun with the .45 ACP cylinder.

I have 1/2 of a 44 Flat top cylinder on my desk somewhere I will get a picture if I can find it
