I like getting new things and making plans. Not as good on follow-through. Anyway, I have my new basic carbine, 1103, and looking for something to do with it. The AQT and insane thoughts of earning a rifleman patch are interesting. But the prone position is a drawback, well, the getting back up. My real goal is just to enjoy some time at the range. So questions:

What, if any, events or disciplines should I consider beyond just going plinking?

What sights/scope would be best all-around for my carbine? I just found these and find them interesting and I've got a Vortex Crossfire II waiting to be assigned somewhere.

Use the Vortex. If you have a problem getting up from prone ,like me, your eyes are old also!!
Best thing you can do to a 10-22 is the trigger.

Get the auto bolt release also.

Yeah, I figured that. I just really like those sights. I've got a BX trigger also awaiting assignment. I will likely start with it. I might manage swapping it out. I'm not a swap out small individual parts guy though. I'll have to look into the auto bolt release. Thanks for good input. Oh, and yes, 68 year old equipment. Recent cataract surgery so the eyes are among the best parts at the moment but still not all I'd wish.
