My first Ruger #1

I know I've had at least a couple of #3s and some Browning 1885 highwalls but I think this is my first Ruger #1. I've never viewed myself as a good enough marksman out in the woods to trust myself to one shot. I recently picked this one up primarily for serial number but the fact it is a 308 Win sealed the deal. I dug though my boxes and found an old vintage steel Weaver V7-1 2.5-7 scope to throw on it. After installing it on the split rings I can see why they didn't last long. I do plan to take it out and get it sighted in once I have an opportunity. I doubt I'll carry it in the woods, but this one will be shot, at least sometimes.

I want No.1's in .308 and .223 bad, but they are going for a lot and my gun funds are badly depleted right now. I'd also like one in .300 PRC, .450 Bushmaster, and 7mm PRC, but they are even worse, and aren't as big of an itch....

I guess for now I'll just be happy with my 30-06 Yin and Yang

I feel the Number 1 rifle is one of the most elegant rifles ever made!

I don't know if they chambered it but I'd like a .22 Hornet.

Nice. To me they are as addictive as the single action revolvers.

Having been down a plethora of Ruger rabbit holes, I was determined to not fall down the No. 1 crevasse, and leave that to the experts. That all changed in April in Tulsa when this fell in my lap. After a blessing from Mr. Newton and Wolosek, and the moral support of my Friend Ken and Frank I dove head first into the abyss and still haven't hit bottom! My only regret was that I couldn't share it with Don Findley, as he had left early that Sunday for home. It has been an enjoyable ride none the less, but without great guidance from the experts that are members here, I would still be working on Winchester's, Browning's, and Colt's like I had been most of my life. Great Ruger's and great friends and acquaintances have allowed me to be a part of this group and I wouldn't have it any other way!
