In 2009, when Ruger introduced the SR-556 in 2009 at Shot Show, Ruger had worked with a number of vendors to supply the BUIS front and rear sights for the series.
One of the vendors, DiamondHead (sights), provided packaged samples to Ruger in hopes of becoming the vendor of choice. Their sights had a unique diamond shape to them, and on their own, provided sights packaged in a clam shell with Ruger graphics, with the Ruger “Hard R” phoenix silk screened onto each of the sights.
Unfortunately for them, Ruger eventually chose Troy Industries, who produced the SR-556 hand guard for the sights they packaged and shipped with the SR-556. Ruger also went onto offer these on Shop Ruger as an accessory for the SR-22.
At first the sights shipped with initial SR-556’s were only marked “Troy Industries” (on the bottom of the sights). Later they also were to include a silk-screened Ruger “Hard R” phoenix on the sights. In addition to Troy Industries, sights from Samson Manufacturing were later sourced, as a lower cost alternative to those provided by Troy Industries.
