ROCS gets invited by the Ohio Gun Collectors Association (OGCA) to one of their meetings/shows every year. They do not have to invite us but they do because we normally have a lot of good Ruger displays to show the public. The OGCA Show this year is August 8 and 9 with setup on Aug 7. Lee Sundermeier sent out packets earlier in the year but we haven't had as great a response as we normally do. So, if you can, we'd love to see more displays (they do not have to be huge, 1 or several Rugers can make a great display). You can contact Lee for more info but it's getting late.

We also have a banquet on Saturday night (you do not have to have a display to come to the banquet but it does have to be paid for in advance) and along with the banquet we have silent auction tables set up. I heard that there will be a lot of great items up for sale (including some rare Ruger memorabilia). You can also donate to the auction which helps fund future shows.

DISPLAYERS: PLEASE send your display title and a narrative of your display in Word format, (it makes things a lot easier) to Bill Hamm and myself as soon as you possibly can. If you need our email addresses, PM me here and I'll send it (I don't like having my email address on an open forum).

Bill needs the info to get it compiled for the editor and publisher of the ROCS Journal and I need it to compile the Judging sheets.

Speaking of Judging the displays, I would like to get a few more volunteer judges. Judging displays is not hard and I have handouts that pretty much explain everything dealing with the judging. We (ROCS) like to have multiple judges (at least 3) so there is not any thoughts of any bias in the results. There are prizes given out to each winner of their class (Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced) Master class displayers are not judged but prizes are given out by pulling names from a hat (the more Masters displaying the more prizes are given out).

The packet that Lee sent out should answer any questions, but if there are ANY other questions about doing a display, coming to the show, etc. you can post here, and someone will get you an answer. This is a GREAT show and it gives Ruger OWNERS and Collectors a chance to showcase the Ruger(s) they own. A display can be 1 Ruger or 100. Heck it doesn't even have to be a firearm, it could be a collection of Ruger memorabilia (there are some folks with fantastic collections of non firearm stuff from Ruger).

Also hope to see a whole bunch of you Ruger owners at the show even if you don't display.

Ron, thank you for posting the important points about the upcoming OGCA/ROCS display show in early
August. This is a new location or venue for all ROCS displayers, but it promises to be very convenient and very close to the meeting hall. The deadline is now, July 1 for prepaid banquet tickets, no tickets will be sold at the door! Of greatest importance for the displayers, Ron and Bill Hamm need your display writeups NOW. We will not publish your display in the Fall Digest without a brief description of your displays.

I too want to thank Ron & everyone who works behind the scenes to make all this happen.

We do need more folks displaying. It truly helps our hobby tremendously.

I do have a serious question about building a display.

I've been trying to scan the rules, but in a conversation with Lee,, I'm trying to get a concrete answer to something. I have studied my registration packet, I understand some of the new additions of things we need to follow.

Here's my problem.

I know the show provides us with 8' long,, 3' wide table for our displays. I will be placing a manikin in my display. To do this,, it will have to in front of the table. AND,, it will have the stanchions in front of that to prevent access to my display by the public. The manikin will be wearing a holstered gun.
To be safer, as well as not causing my display to protrude into the walking aisle, I was wanting to use my own 8' long table that is ONLY 1-1/2" wide. Basically a narrower table. This will allow for more distance from the gun/manikin by the public, and keep the aisle clear.

I can not get clarification in any of the rules about me using my own table.

Can anybody please post a copy of the specific rule that disallows the use of my own table IF THERE IS SUCH A RESTRICTION?

I want to follow the rules,, and just want clarification of this.

Contender, There is only one person who can answer your question. Her name is Laura Knots and she is the show manager. How wide is your table? You state that it is 1.5 inches wide? Is this correct?? Laura can be reached during her normal office hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 AM. Their offices are now closed until Monday, July 6. She makes the rules and has floor people police the rules! We must by her rules.

Thanks for the quick reply. My table is 1-1/2 ft wide by 8 ft long. Not 1-1/2 inches wide. My typing mistake.

I will be in contact with her ASAP! I appreciate the info to get the straight answers. I don't want to break any rules. I just feel it will make my display safer & better all around.

Contender, no problem with my response, please understand that she has the final word and it will require certain people to bring your table into the show. We will receive exhibitor ribbons to enter on Friday when they have security people on duty. You will have to explain the reason behind the need for your personal table. Brass Frame/Lee
