On July 19,1991 every employee at the Ruger Southport plant was handed this letter. At the end of the work day the Ruger Southport Plant would cease all firearms production. No prior warning was given (in advance of this notice) A sad day for Ruger enthusiasts.

Indeed sad, many of us have had the same experience, yet we live through it. Incredible history on a lot of the stuff you've posted up so far Don.

What a shock that was!!
My boss and I had just went through a tour of the Southport plant and Newport/Pine Tree plants two weeks before Southport was shuttered.
Had tried to take as many mental images of the cool things I saw there, but only remember a few today...like the small crate of maybe 25 New Model Lightweight Single-Six rough aluminum cylinder frames.
Also saw three prototypes for newer production models at that time and I remember serial numbers 130-50001, 130-50002 and 130-50003 of the Number 3 Carbine standing in Bill Ruger's gun case, as well as the toy train he had sitting on his coffee table amongst a menagerie of other technically minded collector magazines.
