For those of you who do not know, this old Standard Auto was one assembled in Mexico by Col. Rex Applegate. Very few known and this one is in top condition. His company was named "Armamex". Col. Applegate was quite a warrior. In 1941 Applegate was developing armed and unarmed close quarter combat courses for the US Army when he was recruited by Wild Bill Donovan for the OSS, specifically to build and run what was called "The School for Spies and Assassins".
I am fortunate to be able to own such a true piece of Ruger history!!

What a great pistol!
Those things keep turning up in the unlikeliest of places! The way most of them look today you would think most were still in Mexico being used as door stops.

Nice find, and as noted by Chad, we've only seen a few "clunkers" and Laura passed....... 8-)

Wow! Any story on how it got out of Mexico, and when, that you can tell?
50 years ago when I started collecting, it was Winchesters for me. Then, a lot of Colts & Winchesters were coming out of Mexico.
Their condition was such that they could be spotted 2 tables away. They were tools and well used.

The original owners Grandson is going to send me a letter about the gun's history. I will post if it turns out to be interesting and informative.
