Need some help as all my reference books are still boxed up in the shipping container waiting for my shop to be finished.

Stopped by a gun shop today and there was a New Model Super Blackhawk with a highly polished blued finish serial # 81-01246. A quick look at the Ruger site shows the beginning serial for the new models in 1974 was 81-12401.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

Jay, according to RENE, you are correct that 1974 started with 81-12401, but the New Model Super Blackhawks started in 1973 with serial number 81-00001.

Like I said, all my reference material is boxed, RENE included.
Looks like the Ruger site only has 1974 as the first year for the SBH.
