I recently acquired a stainless old model Blackhawk in .44 mag. It has a 10 inch barrel with no front sight. It has a scope mount where the iron rear sight should be. The most odd aspect of it is the grip frame. It has no trigger guard.
I'm wondering if anyone has run across a similar model and could tell me anything about it. It is serial#: 18XXX and all I can get from Ruger is: "This was before our electronic records and all we have for information is this: .44 magnum Blackhawk revolver serial number 18XXX was produced in August of 1959".
Any information would be appreciated greatly!

Re: Old Model Blackhawk
Sound like it could be an old model BKH40 10" that the front sight has been removed and the blue polished off the gun to look like stainless. No old models were made out of stainless to the best of my knowledge.

Bill is correct that a former owner "customized" a BKH40. We will never know, but it would be very interesting to find out why those modifications were made.

Bill & Bill C.,
I appreciate the information. I tried to upload some pictures, but for whatever reason, the system won't comply.
It does not look to me as if the gun was simply polished to remove the blueing as the finish is almost like chrome. I guess as Bill C. said, "We will never know".
Thanks again for the help. If I can ever figure out how to post some pics, I will do so.

Gunner, select the tab "Attachments" below the box that you type in text, then select "Add Files". This will take you to where you select your pics.

Stingray, that is what I tried, but it froze up. I’ll try again.

It looks like it may be nickel plated?

Could be Bill. I’m just not sure. I wish Ruger had better records!

From my experience the knowledge from the folks who started the ROCS forum
is better than the Ruger records.....
