44 Magnum, S121836, built in S&W's tool room as a show promotion and photo sample revolver in January 1955.  Described in factory letters and literature as "The First 44 Magnum".  Single click on the photo for a closer look.

Interesting story in John Dougan's book about how and when Ruger found about the 44 MAG. 
WBR found out about it in winter of 55/56 and in less than a year designed and manufactured
the Blackhawk, and the first productions guns came out November 1956 .
