Afternoon at the Range

Post by bruce »

That's right I say! The whole afternoon at the range! Wonderful! Great way to wind up a very long day. Hazel got sick about 3 AM. I spend the next 1 1/2 hours helping her and cleaning up. Changed the bed, started washer, mopped the floor, etc., etc., etc. She is now doing better and she told me I should go to the range! Go figure!

Took my Standard Model and my stainless Mk. II. Both have been less than reliable feeding. Wonder of wonders!!! The little SM ran like a top! Same with the Mk. II. Only difference was I had bought some Fiocchi SV as well as some CCI SV. Local gunshot had some "Seconds" on a BOGO sale. I was shocked. Only two FTF w/ the SM. Normally its common to have intermittent FTF. Changed ammo and what an improvement!

Took the same ammo and fired the Mk. II. Improvement was noticeable and immediate. Thrilled to be able to go through several boxes w/ no problems. I had bought new magazines thinking that would fix thing, but that was not the case. Function was just about perfect in every respect.

That's when things got interesting. In past range trips I've been able to get very good on target results with the Mk. II and slightly better results with the SM. Today the Mk. II was firing excellent nice round groups ever so slightly below POA. Fired several 25 shot groups. Did the same thing with the SM firing 25 round groups that were just about perfectly centered on the target. Basically POI = POA. Very pleased.

I fired some strings very slowly and carefully. I also fired some strings at what for me is a rapid fire rate. That is, I fired as fast as the range rules would permit. Didn't want to get to going to fast as that would get me invited to leave. This is a very nice indoor range located less than 3/4 of a mile from my condo. I figure that is to good a deal to mess up by not paying attention to the rules.

Today, I will be drinking coffee and cleaning pistols! Hazel is feeling much better. That means a lot. Don't like it when she's not well. I figure to clean and lube the pistols, finish washing and cleaning while she sits quietly and knits. Other than that, she has said she plans to cook! That'll put a smile on anyones face. Sincerely. bruce.

.22 pistols and rifles are sometimes pretty fickle about what they will feed and what they will shoot well. You gotta experiment. Sounds like you found something your pistols like. A good day at the range is always a good day! Glad the Mrs. is feeling better.

great day and one of the benefits living in the south... Michigan has been below zero all week, but I would imagine I would not be fighting the crowds at the range lol
