My wannabe super blackhawk

Post by fishhuntnut »

Years ago I picked up a 44 ft that had a 7 1/2 in barrel but the serial number was wrong. Here she is, let me know if you notice what is unusual about her. I since have swapped out the xr3 grip frame with a factory brassy and did the trigger and hammer too. Enjoy

I think It is a 7 1/2" 44 Flattop and too early to be that barrel length I venture I like it! :D

The original 6 1/2-inch barrel was replaced with a Super Blackhawk barrel. Overall, a great looking 44 Magnum that should be a great shooter.

Yep, it sports a super Blackhawk barrel, expertly fitted, so I wonder if someone sent it back to Ruger for a new barrel. I lettered the gun but no mention of any work done on it.

I THINK THE CHANGES DONE ON THE SUBJECT FLATTOP WOULD HAVE OCCURRED AT MY BENCH BACK IN THAT DAY.
SOME 43 YEARS AGO, I DOLLYWOODED A SHORT BARREL 357 FLATTOP WITH STAINLESS PARTS ( GRIP FRAME AND EJECTOR HOUSING AND ROD) OFF OF A STAINLESS BLACK POWDER THAT SOME FOOL HAD REALLY SCREWED UP. BOUGHT THE PARTS AND SWITCHED THEM IN AND PARADED IT AT THE NEXT AZ GUN COLLECTORS SHOW. MANY MEMBERS WENT TO THE THEN JENSEN'S CUSTOM AMMO SHOP IN TUCSON AND CLEANED OUT THE PARTS BINS THAT BOB JENSEN KEPT REALLY FULL!

I picked up a 7 1/2" Flattop once that was outta the known serial range but I got it for a good price....the guy offered it to Rugerguy first and he passed as it wasn't right by all the known norms but being a cheap skate I made an offer and bought it.....called Ruger back when you could and was told it was shipped the first time as a 6" gun but the "second" time as a 7 1/2" gun would you like me to put that in a letter for you ? It turned out to be an unmarked factory second that now lives with a famous 44 collector 8-)
