Asking a lot

Post by LDB »

I know this is a big one. But I'm pretty sure one of you, maybe even two of you, have opinions. :) So. I've read a fair amount saying 16" is the optimum barrel length for a .22lr round, enough to think there's something to that.

I'm looking at 10/22 takedown. The 31138 apparently has a minimum price mandate of $518.98 as most of the GoG sources have that as the lowest price. It has the Magpul stock I want and a threaded 16" blued barrel.

The 11100 is $383.95 at the best local source. It has an 18.5" stainless barrel, not threaded, and plain stock. The Magpul stock is $87.12 from Brownell's so it would be $471.07 plus shipping on the stock, $485 maybe.

So, is it better to spend $35 more and get a threaded barrel but give up stainless or is it better to give up threaded but gain stainless and an extra 2 1/3" barrel length?

I'm maybe leaning a bit to the less expensive option as I don't foresee ever dealing with all the hoohaa to get a can and like stainless plus I get the stock in a color I'd prefer over the FDE of the 31138. But as I say, looking for that one, or two, opinions to help me decide. :)

31138 it is. It will be $515 OTD from my local guy I like to work with. It's threaded just in case I ever decide hoop jumping is my thing. Comes with 3 extra magazines and the stock I want. Pretty much checks all the boxes. The only shortcoming is no case included. I'm thinking the Savior case for it. I may wait until the gray is back in stock although I guess the FDE might match a bit better.

How would these sights work given the sight placement on the gun? I think the rear sight is meant to be closer to the eye?

I know it isn't the most highly regarded but am thinking a BX trigger for it. I don't see any other changes, at least for a while.

I put a little 4x32 on mine.

I've had no issues with accuracy after take down and reassembly. It's definitely within minute of squirrel out to 50 yards.

I really like that case you posted. I'm running the one from Ruger, and while the Velcro system is nice, I might need to look at picking up one of those.

FYI. Amazon has all 4 colors for $15 less than the manufacturer:

Thanks for that. I hadn't gotten around to checking anywhere else yet. Got it ordered and it will be here sooner than the TD thanks to a free Prime trial.

No problem. My black one will be here tomorrow, just in time for a trip to Montana where I'll be putting my TD to work getting rid of some squirrels and ground hogs.

Mine arrives tomorrow as well, they say. I went with black. I plan to keep it in my truck and the black will blend in and be pretty invisible in the storage tray under the back seat with the dark tinted windows.
