This gun came into my gunsmith's today, owner is looking to sell it, and we are looking for a value.
The gun is a New Model Vaquero (1995) in 44-40, with a 7 1/2" barrel, laser engraved by A&A Engraving to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the Utah Highway Patrol. I do not yet know if it was commissioned by UHP or someone else, nor who might have received it (research is out on both). It comes in a very nice, but generic, case, but is numbered "10 of 10". The gun has been fired and does have a minor turn ring. I also realize there are two (maybe three) values, 1 for a nicely engraved new model vaquero in 44-40, and one for someone who collects both revolvers and UHP memorabilia (try to imagine both), (the 3rd is for a used vaquero in 44-40 with a 7.5" barrel)

Re: Looking for a Value
Well I Cannot help you with a value, but the earliest Special Production Revolvers in the Vaquero line
started with the "Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office" serial #55-41279, 1 of 27, RENE. There also were a few early FONRA
Revolvers that had the 55- prefix. These are the only SPR guns with a 55- prefix.
Have you reported it to Chad ? I would not be surprised if he was unaware of them.
Not factory but still an interesting gun.

I have not. Marksman had the prototype gun at (I believe) the Nampa show. I've PMed him to see if he has more information.T.A. Workman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2026 11:06 am Well I Cannot help you with a value, but the earliest Special Production Revolvers in the Vaquero line

So far, it seems the general consensus is ~$1100 as a nicely engraved used Vaquero up to $1600 plus in the right auction to the right people....
Re: Looking for a Value
Nice set up and as we often find out it is about what you have "consensed" in the $1600-1800 range to me and as I often say a "total of the sum of the price" a nice gun, very neat caliber, awesome "set up, case ,engraving and all " and the draw back is as you note "used", but also it is as "social , fraternal" limited edition and mainly draws to another Member of that group, not the general shooting public at large,,,,we about all collected at one time or another, stuff from the groups we belong to at the time, try to sell any of this at a later date, I am finding this out today, trying to sell some of "Our" stuff

Re: Looking for a Value
We'll see what the owner wants to do. He's already a pretty big collector, and has inherited his father's substantial collection. After picking out what he wants, he still has about ~100 guns he is looking to sell off. Besides the vaquero, there are a couple of the limited edition Marks; a blued "Signature series", a 50th anniversary, and I think I saw an NRA. I saw a Mini in 300 Blk, and a couple of NM Blackhawks. Lots of Henrys, some older Winchesters, and a few S&Ws, including a King Cobra.... and that was only the first half.
Another gun in that group that I am thinking about picking up is a Browning Buck Mark Rifle (https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10202 ... pid=905759). I know, not a Ruger, but I got to handle it and it had a really good feel.
Waiting to see what else comes in in the rest of this group and another customer is bringing in a ~70 gun collection on Tuesday.

That's one I had not heard of before, but hey... there are only 10.
My guess is, especially with that finish, that it is an after market customization.
Plugging the serial number into Ruger's serial number lookup page, it comes up as a standard KBNV-407 stainless .44-40 7-1/2".

100% agreed that it was not factory. Still trying to get information, but I think I have worked out a very sweet deal to bring it home.chet15 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 12:39 pm That's one I had not heard of before, but hey... there are only 10.
