From all I have seen, Ruger has done a wonderful job of bringing back Marlin. The guns look better than anything Marlin ever did in the past! Of course, now you can't buy one that isn't over a thousand bucks! I remember when I was a kid every year after hunting season I could go in to any pawn shop in the town I lived in and buy a Marlin for usually less than 200 bucks, and a Winchester for about 50 bucks more! It's really hard for me to even contemplate they sell for what they do now.

Congratulations! That 1894 is a beautiful rifle! And of course it is in the perfect caliber! With conventional rifling, it should be good for both jacketed and cast lead bullets! Sincerely. bruce.

I want a few more things before I stop acquiring. A .357 lever-action is one. A Remington 552 is another. About 20 years ago I went through a Case knives rabbit hole phase. A friend just managed to get one of the Case Marlin Sodbuster Jr. knives. I should have but didn't. Got mine out and sorted/straightened them, sort of, and posted on the Case forum I was interested in letting them go. A collector is buying 9 of them from me for $1000. :o
So, getting there, do I take the easy way out and buy the new 70410 rifle from Cummings for $936 OTD at my FFL, a beautiful gun except for the dumb checkering, or do I hunt and wait and hunt to get an original with maybe unmarred wood?

I have the SBL in .357 and I could not agree more. Ruger is putting out a fantastic lever gun. Smooth as silk, accurate as a laser, an absolute pleasure to use.

A bird in the hand. After the check for the knives clears I'm going to order the new one. A used one might look better from arms length but who knows internally. And odds are it won't be at a LGS to check it all out. And warranty. And now a second buyer has appeared. There'll be a 552 out of that batch.
