A little help, if you please

Post by Coogs »

Sooooooooooooooo............Going to pic up a new to me Ruger Max, 600-00179.It has a 10 1/2 barrel on it. Some of those 179 guns went to Davidson's. There is a name on the shipper, Paul Janeszak. Supposedly he was a Ruger employee. Any one out there confirm or deny? Or, did he work for Davidson's? Neat thing about this Max, it shipped with a 7 1/2 barrel, an extra ejector rod housing and extra rear sight. Weird end label on the box. White paper, with 6 or so pre stamped lines to be filled out. From the pics I got I can't see what the headings are. Once I get it in my hands I should be able to tell. Has the wrong serial number on it though. 600-00196, says "Maxi" and a rubber stamped date of May 24,1983. I'm going to be about the 4th owner I figure, trying to track down the second owner. Antique arms guy out of Louisiana I believe. Hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on this for me as to who Paul Janesak was/is. Neat thing about it is I already have 600-00178. Thanks for lookin', Coogs.

Sounds like another good for your herd. I will be interested in hearing more about Paul Janesak too. I happen to be the proud owner of Blackhawk. 44 Flattop #179 so hopefully you can learn something about who he is or was.

Hi Coogs, I asked some people I know that worked in the Newport NH plant about Paul Janesak & they did not know who he was.

Water, I easily get confused, that was where Frank Boneventura was plant manager? The people you asked, were they they 80-86 or so? If he was an employee, I'm wondering if he may have gotten it at a much later date. I have a few Maxi's that have as late as 2005 inventory stickers on them. The other possibilty is that he was a Davidson's employee as they got some of the 179 guns. The reason I believe he was an employee is how the gun was packaged. No ink stamp on the shipper and the odd white label on the inner box, but no Maximum end label. I appreciate the effort. If this Max could only talk! Thanks again, Jack

Hi Jack, They worked there from the 1960's to 2014. Newport is where all Ruger revolvers were made at the time. I know a couple of people that were there & they didn't know a Paul Janesak. My friends have said that it isn't the same as when the Ruger family was involved. I cringe when I think of some of the guns that have been destroyed since the family has been out of it. I can remember sending a letter to them in Southport CT about 40 years ago & getting a detailed reply along with a catalog & a handful of things including sew on patches & pinback buttons & a couple of magazines with the Ruger history in them. This was along with a letter from a customer service representative that actually had a few handwritten words from "WBR" on it thanking me..... Sadly I don't have this package anymore as it was lost when I moved years ago. Today you would be lucky to get a form letter from what I understand.

Carl, thanks again. I've been in Touch with Frank a little lately. Great guy. He has been willing to discuss things but, like all things memories fade with time and the Max only started about 36 years ago. Man, am I gettin' old. Thanks, Jack

Hi Jack, Glad your question has been answered. My friends said there were over 1000 employees at the Newport NH plant when they were there so they didn't know everyone. Enjoy your new Maxi & have a great day!

Chad, figured that out. Wasn't sure what it meant, was just trying to cover all my bases in case Paul did not work at Ruger. And thanks again, by the way, Frank is a great guy and a great help.Jack
