Employee's Manual

Post by Rugerologist »

Hello.

I have these two Sturm Ruger Employee's Manuals. They are light blue in color, and measure 4"X6" and are 32 pages in length. The VP at the time of publication was Stanley B. Terhune. The last official date listed in the booklet is on page 6 and references the 1974 Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act. The booklet then goes on into the history of the company. In this history the last date mentioned is 1973 on page 10. Here they discuss continued growth and construction since 1973. Following that is the General Corporate Policy regarding employees, behavior, dress, etc. I would take it that these were used over a period of years probably mid 70's - ?. One of these booklets belonged to a Barbara Potter but I find no reference to her, the other is pretty pristine with no employee name. Can someone help me nail down the dates these manuals were used?

Kind Regards

Dougan told me that Barbara and her husband Floyd both worked at the Newport plant and retired 15 or so years ago.

Chuck you come up with the greatest stuff. Very impressive indeed. Stan Terhune was a casting expert that Bill Ruger hired to develop his lost wax process.

Chuck
I thought this add would ride well off of your employee handbook. Before you can obtain the Ruger Employee Manual you have to become part of the Team. I picked this old magazine advertisement cut from ebay for manufacturing personnel. It lists the point of contact as Walter J. Howe, his book Professional Gunsmithing exists in about 16 versions. I'm sure some of the Gents on ROCS probably knew him or worked with him over the years.

Professional Gunsmithing, A Textbook on the Repair and Alteration of Firearms: Walter Howe,With Detailed Notes And Suggestions Relative To The Equipment And Operation Of A Commercial Gunshop. Howe's book is intended as an inspirational source as well as a technical guide to the student who is anxious to study gunsmithing but has been led to believe it is a craft that can only be mastered by old world teaching methods. Howe's work remains a valuable teaching tool to this day. Profusely illustrated with over one hundred drawings and illustrations.
