Had a shot at a late 1951 T514...looked to be in excellent 95%+ condition SN-28568, however had vanilla plastic Non-OEM grip panels.

Hard to get a winning bid when a professional gunsmith also wants it, beating the 15-minute rule 28X after 12 minute intervals (4.5 hrs of bidding process)?!? :x

Just curious from anyone what a possible value might be. Did I let a good deal slip through my hands?? :?:

Should be about $550 to $600. Depends also on the bolt type - regular or tapered ear.

Thanks TEMIII! Though few and fair, the pics appear to show it had tapered bolt ears.

Guess once I added OEM proper period grips and all (recessed Red Eagle Medallion-paperwork-box), I'd easily have over $1K sunk into the investment. Possibly a collectable, I would still be taking it to the range with my other Mk series of fun!! ;)

Okay TEM, you have my attention. How big of an ultrasonic cleaner do you have and what kind of fluids do you put in it?

Wonderful collection ny the way.

Mine is a 6.5L stainless bowl, Vevor I believe is the maker. $150-ish, cheaper than a good scope. Buy as large as you can afford. I use distilled water and about a tablespoon of an organic jewelry-rated liquid soap. Food grade clean. Skim off any oils that migrate to the surface.

NEVER use a flammable solvent. Remember a complete re-oiling is required, not just contact points.

At what serial # does the Mk1 T-514 Target start?

Seems the T-678 came out early 1951 (SN-15XXX), but when and with what SN was the T-514 introduced...same time frame as the T-678? :?:

According to Chad Hiddleson's Encyclopedia, the earliest date of manufacture for those with regular bolts was July 1, 1952. The earliest s/n is 26532. The tapered ear bolts start at 27601.

Thanks TEMIII,

Really appreciate your quick response! I Finally have a copy of Chad's Encyclopedia coming and will use as a reference for myself and a few friends who started collecting Ruger historical pieces!! 8-)

I will say that Chad's Encyclopedia is one of my favorite reference books for what I consider to be the best .22 Pistol ever made. Thanks for putting it together Chad.
