“S” Stamped S-47

Post by taterark »

A while back I bought a Super Blackhawk at an auction. The serial number dated it to 1972 which I’m accumulating. It had a new model box with the S-47 sticker but no mention of the “S” stamp in front of the trigger guard. It was produced in November’72, returned to the factory and shipped out again in June of ‘73.

What a great gun! Appears NIB. Also the first time I've seen an OM Super Blackhawk sticker on the end of a red hinged box.
So by 6/73 they must have been rid of the last of their large size OM boxes.

Funny and true story.....was at a local show and a friend buys an S47....he asks me how he did as he was a seller not a collector.....I told him he did fine.....well 3 shows later it is still on his table and he says why don't you buy it from him your the Ruger collector....so I pick it up flip it over and damned if it doesn't have a big S stamp on the bottom    well being the astute collector I am I negotiated an outstanding deal.....we were both happy    PS No I did not educate him.....
