Originally owned by Ruger's VP of Marketing, Ed Nolan, and shipped January 2, 1957. The grips are believed to be a prototype set that were engraved by Charles Jerred for possible retail sale..the plan never materialized, but Jerred completed one or two sets.

Mike. Thanks for showing the package to all of us. I remember looking at the grips in person at Harrisburg and thinking how well they were "engraved" checkered. I believe that some where in Jerred's records someone might find record of these grips? They represent a very important piece of Ruger history. The gun with boxes are really a collectors' dream. You have much to be proud of with this Flat Top! Congrats. Brass Frame/Lee
Mike maybe this is Jerreds drawing of your grips....
Well somewhere I have a picture of the block of wood that Jerred used to put the grips on then mount the block in his vise so he could do the carving.....I bought it from Jerred JR......RR
I picked up number 25 long frame super from the same auction. The really strange part is that it came with a standard red and black box with a shipper marked number 25. The shipper had a black stamp on the outside stating that it was a 6 1/2 super. I can't thing of why Rugers would have a stamp made for such a limited run of guns.
