You guys forget... RENE prices are based off of guns only, then add the price of the box. Conditions for pre 1973 are 95% to 98%, which is THE MAJORITY of guns. RENE prices for guns after 1973 along with the Old Army are considered 98% to NIB. You guys are the ones who fill out the price guides.
Once had a previous owner of the only existing 15" .44 Flattop ask how come I didn't have that listed in the RENE price guide... sorry folks... can't be done realistically.
The problem I have with Blue book pricing on 100% guns with the box is that some of those guns don't even exist 100% NIB. And as most of you know, blue book pricing cannot dictate the price of a rare boxed gun as only the collector market will dictate that, to the highest price somebody is willing to pay.
At one time I tried to have box prices listed separately in the blue book but a lot of the big collectors balked because they didn't want anybody knowing what the rare boxes were selling for separately.

Chad, regarding your question about the extra cylinder box in the $1,500 example I posted, I didn't sell the gun, Jussbad sold it. Maybe he or the buyer will chime in to answer your question.

Re: Old model six convertible 4 5/8 price jump
The RSS4x was a complete package when I purchased along with the brown cardboard box (Ruger cylinder box) not the cardboard wrap. I do have an extra box with the cardboard wrap. I think WMG has a complete RSS4x with the cardboard wrap you speak of. Neat stuff.
Re: Old model six convertible 4 5/8 price jump
Yeah, about 25 years ago had bought an absolutely NIB RSS4X XR3 in the 187xxx from Jim Goergen in Minnesota that had that cardboard wrap around the extra cylinder. Was the first one I'd ever seen like that so figured it was somebody's makeshift handiwork. So I separated it from the package, putting a brown printed extra cylinder box with it. Live and learn.

After reading this thread a couple weeks ago I went to the bunker. I have one of these. No box but the extra cylinder, in the red felt bag, and the box it came in. "A blind squirrel finds and acorn every once in a while"
