Ok, here’s an odd one (or an obvious one!)
While perusing through gun broker, I came upon a a listing of a mkII 22/45.
The gun is a beautiful stainless 22/45 barrel over a stainless mkII frame.
The label on the box is KMK512 and model 00182.
It appears new and is listed “as new in box”.
Soooooo..... is this a factory gun? Or just as it appears, a 22/45 barrel on a mkii frame?
If nothing else, I find it interesting.
And for the record, the “buy it now” is 950.00!

Giving us a link to the auction so we can examine it would be helpful.

You are assuming that I can figure out how to do that!
If I can figure it out, I’ll post it shortly.

Ok, maybe this is it. If not, it has the item number.

I just tried it and it worked. (Trust me, I’m shocked I pulled it off!)

I have seen other auctions by this seller that I think are way over priced.
Not an "expert" by any means on this gun....

I do not "own" these guns, I am but the next caretaker
Re: A question for the experts (you know who you are)
I thought the price was ridiculous, but the fact that it’s being represented as
A factory gun is what piqued my curiosity.
I have no intention of buying it, but if it IS a rare variant, .......who knows?
If nothing else, it’s interesting.

Agreed. Nothing I see would make this a "rare MkII BB". It does appear in new condition, but seems way overpriced!
IMHO, 1/2 the asking price would peak my interest!

Re: A question for the experts (you know who you are)
Yes, half the price and I’m really interested, but the question remains,
Is it a factory gun with a 22/45 barrel on a standard frame?
If so, then maybe 950 isn’t so high.
Hmmmmmmm.

Re: A question for the experts (you know who you are)
The label on the box has the serial number on it and the model is KMK512 which is the correct grip frame. Perhaps the barrel got mixed in with the ones meant for that model and was assembled as such. The 45/22 marking is on the opposite side of the barrel from the serial number so when it was recorded it may have been cataloged as the KMK512 instead. It may have slipped out much like the MK6 with no rear sight on page 152 of Don Findley's book "Bill Ruger's .22 Pistol" Maybe Don or Chad might have an idea.
Some people sit on $.05 of knowledge like it is the treasure of Egypt. I will teach anyone $.10 worth just to prove a point...
Re: A question for the experts (you know who you are)
Rick,
The stainless 22/45 bull barrel (like in the for sale auction) typically was matched with the new Zytel polymer lower, had a catalog# of KP512 and had no designation or markings of "MkII" anywhere on the receiver!
This upper match up with a Regular MkII stainless lower is suspicious, possibly a production marking/processing mix up?!? Like WT suggested, possibly Don or Chad could offer some answers!
FWIW, I have the KP514 heavy tapered 5 1/4" barrel with the Zytel lower...attempted to install it on 2 of my MkII stainless lowers, but had fitting issues...never figured out why. It now permanently resides on the Zytel polymer lower!
