Reference Books for Ruger Sixguns?

Post by Old Model 41 »

Hi.

I have been a Ruger shooter since I was sixteen years old. I have recently become serious about collecting Ruger sixguns and Frontier rifles. I am a believer in the old adage about buying the book before buying the gun.

Can you folks recommend some good reference books for me to purchase?

Thank you.

Welcome Bob, glad that you have joined ROCS!! I highly recommend:
"Ruger Pistols & Revolvers, The Vintage Years, 1949-1973" by John C. Dougan.
John's earlier books "Know Your Ruger Single Action Revolvers, 1953-1963" and "Know Your Ruger Single Actions: The Second Decade, 1963-73" are also great reads and references.
"Ruger and His Guns" by R. L. Wilson is another one every Ruger fan should have.

Thank you Bill.

It looks like from the some of the prices that a few of these ought to be reprinted. :D

Thanks again.

I just received the "Second edition Blue book for Strum Ruger Firearms & values by S.P. Fjestad" Got it on Amazon after it sold out on Ruger Forum.com. Read most of it today, supposedly current values. Contributions by Flattop44 aka Bill Hamm, and Don Findly of this forum. Suppose these are current prices, a little disappointed in some of the values listed but I know things are a bit rough these days. For sure sold some too cheap, bought some too high, but I am happy with the deals I made overall.

PS 2014 publish date for above referenced.

Thanks for the additional suggestion. I have had so much going on medically with my dad and my wife's parents that tonight is the first time I've been back to the forum.

I am hoping to become more active and start finding some nice guns.

Thanks again.

If you are just looking for some good reference material There is a book out there by J.C. Munnell on .22 single action rimfires, can't remember the title as well as a book on 10/22's by Bill Workman. Coogs.
