1A 30-30 with Circassian wood

Post by gewehrfreund »

Anyone know what the approximate production of the blued 1A 30-30 (model 11346) was, and how many may have left the factory with Circassian wood and more extensive checkering? I believe this was a Lipsey offering, but may be wrong.

Are you sure that's circassian?
Looks like fairly strait grained black walnut.
Does the forearm also have Boddington checkering?
I saw a .460 S&W recently that had Boddington checkering on the forearm and standard checkering on the wrist.

here is the lipsey certificate, not aware of any with that checkering pattern. However, I have a 1H 405 win with that pattern, so it's likely the factory just using up leftover wood from previous runs...

No, I'm not sure it's circassian and also suspected it might be black walnut, but the color and grain matches my 1S-C 45-70 very closely, so who knows? The 30-30 has the full "Boddington" checkering pattern n the fore-end as well.

Thanks! I probably would have eventually looked up the Lipsey authentication, but thought I'd ask here first. ;)

The butt and forearm both have Boddington checkering?

Yes, both stocks have the "Boddington" checkering. It looks like circassian wood to me, but the box is not marked "A-C", so it's a mystery. Another "never say never" Ruger example.

not sure it would have been marked, as the lipsey ah 25-06's are well documented with some having circassian with no marking on the box...

Good to know. Thanks!
Not to prolong this, but here is my Lipsey 45-70 with 26" C weight barrel and the box does have the 1S-C marking. To, me the wood is a good match for my 30-30 above.

No way to know how many were shipped with Circassian wood, but my experience is that it was several. The Anniversary checkering is the clue;all I have seen were with this checkering were Circassian. Some other 1A’s of the time frame were also. The 222 comes to mind.
