I've noticed a single capital letter stamped in the bottom of the inside of the forend near the receiver. The letters I've seen have all been a single capital. I've seen P, D, H and a few others. Does anyone know what they mean?
Thanks
Mike

Don't know this for certain, but think it may be the mark of the person fitting or finishing the forearm. Check the Clayton Ruger No.1 Book; it may be covered.

Thanks, the answer is on page 44 of JD Clayton ' s book. Photograph 5-10 explains that the initial of the person who checkered the forend is stamped in the channel. He also says the butt stock is marked on the face that meets the receiver.

Flattop 44,
I'm afraid that my reply to El Numero Uno's suggestion might have come across like I knew the answer all along. Thanks to Lee's comment I did go to Clayton's book for the answer. Sharing it seemed like a good way to respond.
Thanks for the welcome, I have learned quit a bit here already.
