I have had a 03xx s/n Red Eagle for over a year. Went to take it apart for the first time and found the mainspring was stuck. I can get the lever down but the rest of the assembly does not move all efforts to move it have failed.
I don't want to ruin the gun. I don't want an unknowing gunsmith to ruin the gun. Unless someone has a better idea, I think I will ship to Ruger to sort out.
Any other ideas?

Re: Mainspring stuck
Try giving the mainspring housing area a dose of Kroil and let it soak overnight.
When I first tore down my 4-digit Red Eagle it was pretty uncooperative. The Kroil helped.

Re: Mainspring stuck
I agree with the above give it a good soaking with Kroil, did you dry fire fire ?? pull the trigger , to get the hammer to go forward first??? never know, get out of sequence with some of these things can make it more difficult,,,much easier to "see" and diagnose with the gun in your hand than being in the dark,,,as for sending it back if you have an early gun and it has the unsupported bolt, they just may keep it, seen one last week , a nother 3 digit gun that was sent back to the factory to be serviced, and that the bolt was changed out, and NOT sent back to the owner,,,,,,so keep this in mind
also after you soak it, use a "padded" vise or vise grips ( also padded) to get a better grip on the mainspring lever,do NOT use bare pliers or such, neatness counts......

Re: Mainspring stuck
I took your suggestion and soaked it in Rem Oil last night. Rubber jaws in vice would not hold it so I wrapped it in a small towel and clamped it with the steel jaws. First couple of whacks it moved slightly. New few whacks loosed it enough to be removed. No damage, no new scratches.
It is the dirtiest gun on the inside I have ever seen. Another post to follow concerning sonic cleaners!
Thanks for the suggestions.
