I have always been a fan of stretching my rifles to see how far I can shoot. With my go to hunting rifle, a custom sporterized, Winchester M1917, which was originally built by my wife's great uncle for her grandfather, later customized to fit me by my gunsmith, that meant feeling comfortable taking shots at cow elk past 500 yards.
Wanting to be able to go a bit further, my gunsmith built me an AR in .224 Valkyrie, my "1000 Yard gun".
Not content with a mere 1k.... I decided I had to have a 2k/Miler gun.... Had to get a Ruger!! My RPR in 300 PRC.
When I do my part, that rifle is capable of single hole groups at 100 yards, but I have not had a chance to drive the 3 1/2 hours to the 1 mile range, hopefully in March. Unfortunately... there is no way I am hunting with that thing. It weighs a ton!!
My son wants to go chase speed goats this year, and he wants to be able to shoot them at 800-900 yards if necessary. Since I am loving the accuracy of the 300 PRC so far, I decided to look at the 6.5 PRC, or 7mm PRC. Since I suck at making decisions, I decided to get both!
Ruger American in 6.5 PRC for deer sized game out to 1k
And for those hunts (like my last elk hunt) where being able to reach out to 800 or 900 yards... Hawkeye FTW Hunter in 7mm PRC
I haven't done much more than zero and run a box through the 6.5 and the 7, but all 4 will be making the trip to Price in March.

That's a bunch of nice looking guns. The .224 is on my suspect list. The rest too much recoil for me. Enjoy.

Re: Go Long!!!
The PRC's don't kick that hard at all. The RPR has way too much weight, and the other two, between muzzle brakes and butt pads, feel lighter than the 30-06 did before I braked it also.

I can't think of anything to say but WOW! All are great rifles.

Anything above a .243, and maybe even that, is more recoil than I'm interested in. I had a .25-06 about 50 years ago and it was too much to suit me. But I like to look at and appreciate them all.
