My understanding it was a metallurgy issue.

Read the books! John Dougan does a great job of describing the problem in some early Rugers. Troy is correct, some cylinder frames exhibit variations of plum color. I have a BKH30 with a complete copper colored cylinder frame and a collection of BKH3's that show the color. I also wrote an article in an earlier Digest about the color. Brass Frame/Lee

I had one just like it for about a week.....sold it to Mikey G....I think he might have sold it too....
Beautiful gun I kinda wish I had kept it but heck ya can't keep them all .....lord knows I have tried 8-) 8-) 8-)
well not my old gun....mine was 507612 probably from the same batch....
