American Rifleman Magazines

Post by t.hinckley »

About a year or so ago I picked up all issues from 1956 and '57, specifically looking for the Ruger pistol ads, especially the wildlife ones. Having gone through them all, I am now wondering if there is a market for some of the other ads; Beretta, Winchester, etc. Would it be worth cutting them out and trying to sell them?

Try removing the staples and keeping the ads you wish to sell. That way the ads retain their month of publication. I bought a collection of the same magazines from 1947 to 1975 and inserted all the Ruger ads into plastic sheet protectors, keeping them in large 3 ring notebooks for future use in my displays. I removed all staples, then used a paper cutter to cut exactly along the "spine" for the ones I wanted, looking at them though... only one shows the issue date. I'm just wondering if it is worth it to treat some of the other manufacturer ads the same way?

I also have a handful of duplicates that I am probably going to through out as "karmas". Need to go looking for frames for everything else today.

I only have a duplicate of the Grizzly/44 Mag on these ones....

Our ROCS Forum is a great place to advertise the extra Ruger Ads. Ebay might work for other company Ads. Brass Frame/Lee

On the pages that have no date it probably would not hurt to put the date on the back - in pencil (it can be erased if the owner wants). I agree with Lee about eBay for the other manufacturers. BUT - I would list them here first as there are Ruger owners that also own other brands and they might have a special gun that an ad would "enhance" it.

I'll go through the magazines again this weekend and pull out some of the better ads for other manufacturers. If there is anything anyone is looking for in particular from 1956/1957, let me know asap and I will look for it.

we've still got bunches of them from back then, more later ads too, press releases, etc., , here in the room, Laura used to frame them and hang them in the shops back in the 70s and 80s and sell them for the price of the framing and since we been cleaning out "stuff" over here , found many more, loose pages, just no time to sort them out ,lay them out and try to take pictures with a broken camera ( no smart phone) tough enough trying to take care of Momma, cannot leave her alone anymore............ :(
