I would like to introduce myself!

Post by CottonBayou »

Hello to all. I am Robert Kirksey and I have just joined your association of folks who take an interest in Ruger firearms. I have been a firearms enthusiast for as long as I can remember and have had a particular liking for Ruger rifles since the introduction of the No.1. I thought that was the most elegant rifle ever created, but at the time the chances of actually owning one was about as good as acquiring that 1967 427 Fairlane I so desired! Times have changed and I have a few Rugers (and even a No.1) and now think I was lucky I never got that hot rod Ford.

I am a Firefighter for the Homewood Fire Department for a little longer but will be retiring fairly soon and moving to Orange Beach, AL into what is now our vacation home. The user name I chose is from a little bayou close to our home that has an interesting history. Cotton Bayou feeds into Perdido Pass which is the only significant gulf outlet In Alabama other than Mobile Bay. During the war, growers would bring their cotton there to be picked up by blockade runners and taken to Europe to be sold to fund the war effort. Now instead of blockade runners we see fishing boats.

I hope to be making the acquaintance of many of the members and anticipate a long association.

With best regards,

Robert Kirksey

Hey Robert, we are sure happy to have you as a member of ROCS and look forward to a lot more of your posts. There are a lot of n us who feel the same way about those classic No. 1s.

Interesting town that you are moving to way down south. Sure hope you enjoy your retirement, I sure like it....I am way up in the north end of the state.

Hope you can come to some of our ROCS Display shows, would like to meet you.

Hi Robert, First I want to thank you for being a Firefighter. Takes a hell of a man to run INTO a fire when most go the other way. I agree that Ruger makes the finest firearms too and I think that is felt by all here. Probably a good thing you didn't get that 1967 Ford Fairlane 427 at the time.... Too many tickets usually follow such a purchase. I never owned a Ruger #1 rifle but did have a Ruger #3 for a short while that I had to sell. Enjoy your retirement and hope you can find more #1's and any other thing you desire.

Robert.

Welcome to our (and now yours) forum. We are all Ruger lovers, all types. The best place to meet a bunch of us it at our Display Shows. We have two big shows, one in July held in Wilmington, Ohio in July and one in Tulsa, OK. in November. We also have a smaller show in Huntsville, AL. in January. We are also working on some others. Look under SHOWS on the forum for pics and more info. You will have a great time!!.

Feel free to post in any category, we would love to hear about your interest. Pictures are good too, and they are easy to post.
