Who else has bought on of these new special 10/22's? My local dealer finally got one in the other day and even though it is not laminated I just had to add this one to my collection. I have one of the 40th anniversary ones with the medallion in the stock so it just fit in with all of the others I have. I need to take the time to go out and shoot this one as it feels good and pulls up nice. I like how you can change the stock depending on if you want to shoot open sights or with a scope.

I was hoping for something more classic than what they came up with, lots of folks seem to have even more strong opinions plus and minus on this one as you know. From what I've learned about your collection so far, how could you not add this one

Not really an option to not add this Contest gun to my collection. I am really looking forward to talking to everyone in Tulsa about my 10/22 collection!

Charlie,
Wonder if you could recommend a book on the 10/22 along the lines of the Joe Clayton Ruger #1 book, or the Burke M77 book. Is there anything comparable for the 10/22, you've got me interested in exploring more of the history on 10/22s. Think I may have been missing out.

Williams Workman's "The Ruger 10/22" has been the definitive sourse for years and covers the early stuff but it's time for "the ruger 10/22 part II"

Re: 10/22 50th Anniversary Contest gun
I agree that someone should write an update to Bills last book that was packed with information up to the point it went to press. I tried to keep up with every new one up until the end of 1999. When the TNZ came out in 2000 I decided to limit my collection on what I was displaying on what was made up through 1999. It used to be that the special distributor exclusives were not that common but now if you look in RUGER's web page the list seams to grow and grow. Now just the different colored laminated models seams never ending compared to what was offered in the early years. Now they also have the take down which comes in everything except a laminated stock so far.
I for one would like to see a finger groove sported offered again in a laminated stock, possibly red, white and blue in color. The finger groove sported stock has always been one of my favorite stocks to shoot. How many have ever had a laminated deluxe sporter stock in their hands? Only 690 of them were made prior to 2000. I do not recall ever seeing another deluxe sporter offered. To my knowledge 4 of these were hand checkered at the factory on a special order but I have not seen one to date.
