Don....you were right.

Post by Rugerologist »

Mr. Findley, :D

I don't want ya getting a big head or anything but I'm just going to say that you were right. I've had to get some more cabinets etc. I haven't been able to get organized since returning from Tulsa. I go in the Ruger room and spin circles accomplishing nothing. So, I went and found some items to help me with the task. First, an antique....oddity cabinet of some sort which I placed on top of our barn wood bookshelves in the library. I've put all the glassware there for now. The black and silver cabinet....well I've had it a long time but it had been retired to the garage. She's now resurrected and ready for Ruger. It will hold some odd shaped items well. Then there are the two filing cabinets. The standard one is fire rated and lockable. The black one is for all the binders, magazines, and whatever else paperwork will fit. I think I can now get my life in order....slowly.

I was lucky to find some Army surplus map file cabinets. The drawers are 4 ft wide X 3 ft and 3 inches deep. They will hold a lot of handguns & papers and are stackable.

Don
Military map cabinets, that's an awesome idea and I cant believe I didn't come up with that one. The drawers are 4 ft wide X 3 ft and 3 inches deep as you state and many/most are lockable at each drawer or as a total set.
Great tip,,,,,,

Search for flat file cabinets, or blueprint cabinets or art file cabinets. Looks like eBay has a lot of them.

That's a great idea for handgun storage, you could lay out a specific display in one drawer and play with it until you're happy with the positioning. Easy to add things or reconfigure.

Now I just need to figure out where to put one in my house

I know a guy who had a cabinet maker do this for his safe......

You open the safe and all you see are wood drawers with handles.....

Open the drawers and he has some of the worlds best guns.....SWEET....RR

You guys are killing me with ideas I cant sleep.
I've always been frustrated with the amount of wasted space in my commercial safes.
I have 6 Liberty Fat Boy Jr's in basement, there is so must wasted space in these safes.
The cabinet maker idea is a thought, I already have the investment and arrangement of space, electricity, alarms, humidity etc. The map cabinets are also an excellent idea and warrant some thought and space I hope in my place. Either way I have to take it to the next level of efficiency in space and presentation.
