Hello Jay

I may start collecting boxes instead of revolvers! At first I assumed it had a cylinder or maybe two because I couldn't view the photos. I went back and looked again and was able to open the entire listing and the contents and found that the box is marked by hand with #1407 and the warranty card is also marked 1407. Other than that it has wax paper and and some shipping paper. I assume a bidder has the numbered .357 and this was his shot at his 4 digit gun box. Why the competitive bidders is the question?
Maybe a bidder with the 1407 4 digit revolver and another with ending serial number in 1407?

Someone will know Jay, I'm waiting patiently as well for a good answer....

It a non-catalog early .357 Flattop box, that is the attracting factor for single action collectors. It looks to be in minty condition and that is a very fair price for the box alone. If the high bidder does happen to have that gun that would be cheap!! ☺

The box sold for $445. That seems to me to be a good price. If I had known about it sooner I would of bid on it myself.

Very interesting.
Me, I'm just trying to learn what is a good deal & what is not.
Bill & OM, this is where your experience is respected by me, because in reality I'm with Gene...
$445 ...FOR A BOX!!!
I get it if the high bidder has the 1407 revolver. But, the chances of that being the case....
it seems the chances of winning the mega lotto are better to me.
I would guess Bill is right, the fact that this is a non cataloged early FT makes this very
desirable to a Ruger collector. Hopefully someone we/you all know got it!!
Thanks for the continued education.
Cheers,
JAY

If you think this box price was high you should see what a 10" .357 or .44 box will bring....more than doubled!! Then there is the Green Wreath Light Weight box, probably double those. So if you run across any of these old boxes in a yard sale jump on 'em. 😉

Bill,
Looking forward to yard sale season, it's considered a sport here!

Mr. Findley is right, thinks are worth what ever someone is willing
to pay for it.

I really enjoy the knowledge you gents share. I'll admit I was a bit lazy and didn't think of researching the catalog number of the box end. A quick look at RENE or other sources would have revealed the non-cataloged issue. Learning everyday on ROCS!!!
