Ruger box repair

Post by Packrat1947 »

I bought a Super-Single Six in '72. Not long after that a little girl scribbled inside the lid with yellow magic marker. Is there anyone who restores or fixes boxes? The rest of the box if fine, but seeing the markings is depressing.

Thanks for anyone who can point me in the proper direction. This my first post on this list.

Packrat, welcome to the site. Can't tell you someone to repair the inside of your box but I have seen a couple of repairs made that looked pretty good. They cut a thick piece of white paper to the exact size of the inside of the box top and glued it in. If you can't find someone to do the repair, you may give it a try, it looked pretty good.

Packrat,

I have noticed that yellow marker has a tendency to fade over time. The process can be accelerated by direct sunlight or other bright light exposure. This will take some time and will not totally eliminate it, but being on the inside it shouldn't be a problem. IMO

You might try acetone. Start with a little on a Q-tip to see if it works on yellow. I have taken black off with acetone. Other times it don't work at all.
