Nuns Really? Majority of Sturm Ruger Investors Vote For Gun Safety Report

Post by LIBERTY FOREVER »

I'm sure most everyone has seen the new corporate video and letter from CEO Killoy stemming from the recent shareholder meeting. If not I have provided a link below for your viewing. I wanted to wait and respond to another members comments with more knowledge on this subject. Its offensive that a Religious group has decided to invest in Ruger in an effort to influence corporate management decisions. I assume most everyone has seen the press release from CEO Killoy where he states there will be "No Changes to What Ruger Makes and Sells to Law Abiding Citizens, Despite Shareholder Proposal." Ruger is a publicly traded stock and I'm going to assume that everyone fully supports free markets and capitalism as I do. I'm also going to assume every one believes in the Bill of Rights (10) Amendments and if we love #2 we have to support #1.

https://www.billofrightsinstitute.org/f ... of-rights/

I was born in 1967 in a predominantly Catholic Rural County and raised as a minority Lutheran. I converted to the Methodist Church when I married Judy 1988. Upfront, I'm an American, a Traveling Man, a Patriot, a Family Man. I'm not prejudiced against believers in God or those that haven't been found, I love Americans. I'll reserve my opinion on the religion of Islam. I've always been aware that the Catholic Church has been very political in nature and has a strong base and remember there work in the early years after (Roe Vs Wade) 1973. This was before President Trump allowed those in the pulpit to speak on political issues without fear from the IRS of loosing there tax free status 501c, this isn't the debate here. I watch now as the Catholic, Christian, Mormon, Jewish, etc continue the same fight for the unborn, young, old, sick, lost, poor, needy, immigrants, destitute, etc, we could debate the need and motivation of each Church and Leader but lets assume it is at least work for the people in the name of the God. I'll agree that not all the motivation is good for the Nation or that all is necessarily on behalf of God, (if your a non-believer drop to next paragraph.) The Jewish population lobbies for there cause which is evident now in there survival in a hotbed of Islamic Hell. The Christian Coalition fighting for the right of Christian Family Values and Conservative Principles, probably from a religious perspective that most represents the NRA and supports the Second Amendment. jmho

About now Watertender is thinking Oh-Boy LIBERTY FOREVER is half a bottle of Crown Royal down, took to much medication and hes popped his lid. Hes pontificating (rambling) Carl, on Religion, Bill of Rights, Capitalism, Ruger and the CEO Mr. Killoy! Has he been watching Mark Levin again.......

SO WHATS MY POINT; I find it extremely disgusting that a group of Catholic Nuns from Oregon (god bless there good work) have decided its appropriate to spend the donations of the good parishioners and the elderly to include many estates that are left to the Church by elderly who die without heirs. I'm very sure they don't intend for there funds to be used in a manner such as this and there should be an immediate public service announcement in the area to advise those who are unwittingly contributing to this anti second amendment investor and infiltrator. Further while I do believe in capitalism I don't believe in the destructive investment practices of those who wish to do legitimate harm with funds derived from being a 501C tax exempt organization, ie Catholic Health Services, Stick to Hospitals and Catholic Charities for the needy. Hiding under the guise of a popular fund name is highly deceitful. Its time for the top six investors to figure out where they want to go, my suggestion (i'm sure there waiting on it) would be to buy the nun-sense religious investment out of the gun business as quick as possible! My support is with Mr. Killoy as he may well have a fight on his hands.

At the recent Annual Meeting of the Ruger Stockholders, a shareholder’s activist proposal – a thinly disguised call for gun control – was passed despite a recommendation against passage from the Ruger Board of Directors. Below is Ruger’s formal response to the resolution.

Please understand that Ruger was obligated by applicable law to include a shareholder’s activist resolution with its proxy materials for a shareholder vote. With its passage, the proposal requires Ruger to prepare a report. That’s it. A report. What the proposal does not do . . . and cannot do . . . is force us to change our business, which is lawful and constitutionally protected. What it does not do . . . and cannot do . . . is force us to adopt misguided principles created by groups who do not own guns, know nothing about our business, and frankly would rather see us out of business.
As our CEO explained, “we are Americans who work together to produce rugged, reliable, innovative and affordable firearms for responsible citizens. We are staunch supporters of the Second Amendment not because we make firearms, but because we cherish the rights conferred by it. We understand the importance of those rights and, as importantly, recognize that allowing our constitutionally protected freedoms to be eroded for the sake of political expediency is the wrong approach for our Company, for our industry, for our customers, and for our country. We are arms makers for responsible citizens and I want to assure our long-term shareholders and loyal customers that we have no intention of changing that.”

A majority of Sturm Ruger & Co investors on Wednesday voted to support a call for the gun maker to produce a report on the safety of its products, in what shareholder activists called the first victory for such a proposal.

The resolution passed in the wake of marches and demonstrations in support of gun control during the three months since 17 people were shot dead at a Florida high school.

It calls on Sturm Ruger to report by next year on how it monitors the use of its products in violent crimes, on research to produce safer firearms and on risks gun violence could pose to its reputation and finances.

Sturm Ruger and rival publicly traded gun makers such as American Outdoor Brands Corp have been under pressure from fund firms, banks and retailers since the Parkland, Florida, massacre.

Religious investor activists sponsored the resolution. Southport, Connecticut-based Sturm Ruger did not disclose the margin by which it passed at its Wednesday annual meeting in Prescott, Arizona.

Chief Executive Officer Christopher Killoy said the maker of handguns and assault-style rifles would prepare the report but would not be forced into changing its business.

"What it does not do, and cannot do, is force us to adopt misguided principles created by groups who do not own guns, know nothing about our business, and frankly would rather see us out of business," Killoy said of the resolution.

He rejected calls to meet with shareholders.

A majority of the company's shares were owned by six institutional investors as of recent filings, indicating the measure could not have passed without support from at least one of them.

Top investors include BlackRock Inc and Vanguard Group, which together own about 25 percent of the company. A BlackRock representative did not immediately comment. A Vanguard representative declined to comment.

Major proxy advisers had recommended investors vote for the safety report.

The religious activists' proposal discussed the possibility of developing "smart guns," with electronic limits on their ability to fire.

"If new product development, as you said Mr. Killoy, is the lifeblood of Sturm Ruger, safer guns need to be on that development agenda," one proposal supporter, Colleen Scanlon of Catholic Health Initiatives, told the meeting.

A representative for the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility said similar proposals at Sturm Ruger got less than 6 percent support when they were last voted on, in 2001 and 2002.

I think that auto makers and cellphone makers should be required to explain how their products combined contribute to slaughter on American roads.... We are more likely to be killed by a driver texting than a firearm. Gene you are spot on and not down half a jug of Crown Royal. Places with the strictest gun control laws have the worst murder rates... Look at those wonderful paradises of Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore etc. etc..... You are on to something
Some people sit on $.05 of knowledge like it is the treasure of Egypt. I will teach anyone $.10 worth just to prove a point...

Carl Your correct, I'm usually ran down once daily when on the hi-way by a wandering cell phone user in a car.
The automakers GENERAL MOTORS, FORD, DODGE have much more clout than RUGER, SMITH, REMINGTON then to allow shenanigans in there shareholder meetings. Not saying that your point shouldn't be addressed.
There would be no nonsense infiltration by such groups. I know the issue is very near to your heart and has affected your home in ways that I pray none of our members have to know.
