The consensus on the other site is that while we would all like to see it happen it is probably cost ineffective to get done at this time. The need for a dedicated historian is probably not in the Ruger budget. Having spoken, one on one, with a few individuals I personally feel that even if they had someone gathering the necessary information it would be like herding cats; time consuming and having no end in sight.

You also have to remember that Bill Ruger did not consider his guns as collectible so he never set anything up to, as I have been told, even track a lot of what was happening. Stuff went into boxes and got stored away. I am amazed that Chad, (his dad also I think) John Dougan, Don Findley, et al were/are able to find out what they have and are finding out about Rugers.

If Steve Vogel was still around then maybe we would have seen it happen.

That really is a shame. I sent a letter anyway and encourage others to do the same. What I can't understand is how and why their letters used to be more informative but are now sent with fewer details.

All about $$. What does Ruger care about old product? Nothing in it for them to provide historical info, and frankly, how many of these letter requests do they get in a year? Doubt they could justify part time minimum wages for a high school kid to do these letters.

The common feelings/theme/facts expressed here all make sense. But, from a BUSINESS point of view.....

Yes, this is probably true. On the other hand, some companies who value customers and are willing to provide an extra level of service, tend to ensure a measure of future business and likely growth in their customer base.
Without loyal customers (i.e. collectors and new gun buyers), the business point of view on things can start to result in diminishing returns.

I'm sure most of the interest in more detailed letters lies with you folks who collect Ruger handguns. As a No. One "collector" of sorts, the database is a lot smaller, but there is still a need for better information about many of the early rifles and some of the rare later examples.

I have also sent letters in the past to have something done about their letters.
Just letting you know now, you may be happy to be receiving what they give now....the program can just as easily be shut down.

As Chet15 posted they can always shutdown the current program which is most likely not paying for itself with the $10 donation.. And it's not like you don't know what you will get for you $10.. it's stated plainly on the website (see below statement).. for my non prefix No 1's, I find it's still interesting to know the ship date, so I will keep sending in my $10!

Please Note: The Letter of Authenticity lists the serial number, ship date, model and caliber. We are unable to provide any information beyond that.

just got back some letters from Ruger and they added more info on these. Besides the usual, these also included who they were shipped to including the company name as well as city and state. On my RMEF RSI they stated the date the receiver was shipped to Adams for engraving and what date the completed rifle was shipped to RMEF.
