Ruger No. 1 front sight
Ruger No. 1 front sight
The serial number on my 1-BBS shows made in 1968. When did they stop making them with the front sight with the groove and the barrel protruding out past the sight.
Re: Ruger No. 1 front sight
I don't know the date specifically, but I own 2 BBS guns. one has the hood slots and one doesn't. according to Ruger the one with the slots was shipped July '68 the other was shipped June '68. As with the s/n's I don't believe they used the parts in any specific order...
Re: Ruger No. 1 front sight
Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to find a site hood. I assume they never made them but the first year adverts. show them and the guy from gun digest testing one the first year had one in the article. (apparently 3 exist) Mine with the sight hood slot is a 243 win mid 1968 and my other is a 300 win mag made at the end it has a 130- prefix. (see my previous post)

Re: Ruger No. 1 front sight
Hey I bet if someone custom made front sight hoods us crazy collectors might buy them.
Re: Ruger No. 1 front sight
This one sold at auction for about $3K The front site hood looks like it was modified at the front so that it slides back past the detent slot. Maybe its not real? See the picture above from Classic Sporting Arms facebook page

Re: Ruger No. 1 front sight
That one above is not Factory. Per Joe Clayton, per Steve Vogel, only 3 were made. John Amber ended up with 2 of them and the 3rd is on a rifle in the Cody museum. which I have the docs on to know it is correct.
