Starting to put my WTC list (want to collect) together of all Rugers born in 1961 (my yob). I have owned most of them before but only have 2 1961 guns in my collection right now, so I am now on a hunting expedition…. I will update this thread with a list for your review and you can let me know if I am missing any variations…. I will probably have to horse trade into some of the more rare varieties should I not be able to buy them outright… ha ha….
I currently only have the RSSM and Bearcat……. Wish I still had my 3 digit deerstalker…
1961 Rugers
Re: 1961 Rugers
You will also need a 10" .357 flattop with 8-groove barrel.
And a white box Super.
Those two will probably be the most pricey.
A challenge will be the RSS4X and RSS9X XR3 convertibles.

Re: 1961 Rugers
Well now, how did I miss the single six convertibles…. Learn something new every day.
However, was there such a gun as the RSSM LR only? I am assuming that any 6 1/2 barrel length Single six in 1961 was rollmarked as a magnum , am I wrong?… I tried to glean as much as I could from the RENE guide, but probably missed something in my old age…
I was trying to stay away from box variations, grip variations ( R or W), etc as I think those are hard to letter…. But I had the 6 groove and 8 groove 357s on my list (both 6.5 and 10”) but maybe there were not any 8 grove 4 5/8 and 6 1/2 in 61??? Hmmmm… See what you can learn when hunting in the thickets??? Ha ha….

Re: 1961 Rugers
You can delete 5 through 8 on your list.
And add the .44 Deerstalker
#13 can stay as just RSSM (that was Mag. only).
But then there are also the RSS4X, RSS5X, RSSMX and RSS9X... all introduced 1961
And if you really want to get crazy, yes the original Single-Six models were RSS4, RSS5, RSSM and RSS9 which themn morphed to RSS4R, RSS5R, RSSMR and RSS9R. But then 1960 to 1962 was also the RSS4W, RSS5W, RSSMW and RSS9W.
