No.1 loose action and ejector

Post by 3000fps »

Recently picked up a No.1 A, .243, Light Sporter, 130-xxxx with really great wood. It shoots OK, 1 MOA with handloads but haven't spent much time working up the right load. Almost excellent wood and metal condition but the extractor doesn't eject the brass with authority. It just sort of "plops" it out onto the safety and the lever basically feels loose. (I have eight others to compare) The rifle was really dirty with grease, oil and crud and the action is still too oily after wiping away what I can. I took it to the local gunsmith and asked him to remove the trigger assembly, clean it up and look into the ejector and lever issues. After thinking about it for several weeks he declined to do it which was OK with me since he wasn't comfortable doing it. Has anyone come across the ejector and lever issues and is getting into the trigger assembly to clean it a bad idea or I'm sure they're gunsmiths out there who specialize in No. 1's Thanks

Had a 1B 243 that would eject only partially.. the ejector seemed to slipping by the rim.. replaced the ejector and it worked fine. Ruger no 1s are not that hard to work on. Go the Ruger site and they have a disassembly video to watch and judge for yourself.
